Sigrid Hackenberg

The daughter of German and Spanish parents, Sigrid Hackenberg came into this world in Barcelona, Spain, on January 3, 1960. She teaches media philosophy as an assistant professor at the European Graduate School in Saas-Fee, Wallis, Switzerland, and is based in Hyderabad.

Her work spans multiple disciplines. Feminism and Continental philosophy are her primary areas of academic interest. Some of the recent essay topics include “ethics as first philosophy,” reading and writing as an activity, and the philosophy of language. A monograph by her on Emmanuel Levinas and G.W.F. Hegel is forthcoming from Anthopos Press. I am now working on a book that will explore the relationship between language and the feminine.

The Museo Extremeño e Iberoamericano de Arte Contemporáneo (MEIAC) in Badajoz, Spain, has commissioned Hackenberg’s newest video and sound installation, which they made in conjunction with Dolores R. A. Hackenberg and pertains to the Spanish Civil War.
